Today we toast Odin (a major Norse god and poet), Njǫrd (god of the wind and sea), and Freyr (Njord's son, god of fertility, rain and sunshine). It is the day to revel in family and friends and to remember the value of community.
And today is also called the day of the Deer Mother.
They ancient people "'married" the deer, as the deer means life.
The reindeer is the only deer where the female is larger than the male. She also keeps her antlers in the winter when the males lose them. Mother deer flies through the night and lights the sky with her antlers.
Tonight is a night to remember the importance of feasting and toasting with friends and family, reveling in kinship and hospitality. Celebrate the virtue of truth and may the Mother Deer light your way all year.
Such a festive looking celebration. Enjoy..
